The Surprising Benefits of Fasting

Hello friends, welcome back. Trust your week has been great and everything going well.

Today, I want to share with you some surprising benefits of fasting.

Fasting is something many of us have been used to since we were young. And I remember those days, my mother used to persuade us to fast. We did it those days without knowing much benefits to it. But now, I know better.

Recently, I've been engaging in longer fasting and I've been seeing the results. So, I thought I should share the surprising benefits of it with you my friends.

Fasting has different dimensions to it. And it is not only limited to health benefits, but also for spiritual and other purposes.

In this article, we will explore those benefits and see how we can incorporate them into our life.

For the spiritual benefits, fasting allows us to put away distractions and let us focus our mind and thoughts on God. When we pray, one of the reasons why we fast is to focus our mind and attention on God. We don’t want to be praying and be thinking about food. So, fasting allows us to concentrate and avoid distractions.

More so, when we fast, we become more sensitive in the spirit and our spirit is in tune with the spirit of God, and we can manifest more spiritual fruits. We can show more acts of kindness, more love to people, and do good things.

Fasting allows us to discipline ourselves and control our appetite for things. It is not only limited to food. It can be about anything. For example, things that give us pleasure – such as sex, drugs, alcohol, cigarette, parties, gossips and so on.

We could decide to fast on those things and tone down our appetite for them. In effect, we can see how this will allow us to conserve resources – our time, money, energy, and relationships. These are very important things as far as our life and purpose are concerned. And there is so much about fasting than what we’ve been used to!

Now, let’s look at the health benefits of fasting.

1.
The first benefit I want to share is – it allows your digestive system to rest and prevents overload. Now, this doesn’t mean your body cannot handle eating food every day. But it will be healthier and more effective when you skip meals sometimes. You will feel the effect in your body yourself.

I know this may not be good news for those who can’t do without food. But you can always start with as little time as possible. You can start with a quarter of a day (6 hours). Then, to half a day (12 hours). Then to a whole day and so on.

The idea is to start getting your body used to fasting, because it’s highly beneficial for your health and wellbeing.

Other health benefits are:

2. Supports Weight Loss: One of the most well-known perks of fasting is its ability to help you shed those extra pounds. It protects you from overloading your system with excess calories and prevents obesity and overweight.

3. Regulates Blood Sugar: Fasting can be a lifesaver when it comes to keeping your blood sugar levels in check. It reduces your risk of developing diabetes by helping your body manage glucose more effectively.

4. Reduces Inflammation: Inflammation is often at the root of many health issues, and fasting can act as an anti-inflammatory habit. It helps tone down those inflammatory responses in your body, keeping you healthier and happier.

5. Improves Overall Fitness: Fasting isn't just about losing weight; it's also about keeping fit. It can boost your overall physical fitness by enhancing your body's performance.

6. Decreases Risk of Metabolic Diseases: Metabolic diseases, like heart disease, can be prevented or mitigated through fasting. It's like a shield protecting you from these potentially dangerous conditions.

7. Boosts Cognitive Performance: Fasting doesn't just work wonders for your body; it's great for your brain too. It can enhance your cognitive abilities, making you sharper and more focused.

8. Lowers the Risk of Cancer: Some studies show that fasting might reduce the risk of certain types of cancer. By cutting nutrient supply to the precancerous cells, you boost your body’s fight against cancer. And when you fast, you reduce tendency to eat junk foods and chemicals that could trigger malignant growth in your body.

9. Reduces Food Addiction: If you've ever struggled with food addiction or binge-eating, fasting can help you regain control over your eating habits. It allows you to develop discipline and a healthier relationship with food.

So, those are the surprising benefits of fasting. I hope you’ve learned a lot from them. I pray you enjoy good health and live a happy life. Stay blessed and I will see you again next week.

Much love!

Abiola
