7 Ways to Eat Healthy On A Low Budget

Part of the essential things that we need in life is food. It contributes to our health and longevity. And it’s something that we cannot do without. But sometimes the strain of spending too much on food could have a toll on us. The good news is that there are some easy ways to eat healthy, even on a low budget.

I know some people think healthy eating is expensive. But it is not, really, if we know how to.
Here are 7 ways to eat healthy on a low or moderate budget.

1. Cook From Home: It is good to cook from home if you are on a budget. When you cook by yourself, you determine the quantity and the quality of your food. You also cut your coat according to your size and make sure all what is inside your food is all what you want.

More so, you can eat the remnant later and make sure nothing goes to waste.

2. Shop At Supermarket and Farmers Shop: If you want to buy food stuffs, go to where foods are sold cheaper and better. To buy things in bulk, go to supermarkets, not local stores. And to buy fresh farm produce cheaper, go to farmers markets.

It’s good to plan your shopping so that you can have enough time to do good shopping and buy your foods in bulk. Bulk buying saves time and money than petty buying.

3. Learn Shopping Tips: Find out when foods are sold on discounts. Also, find out where in a supermarket food items are sold cheaper. Usually, cheap items in supermarkets are kept out of public eyes so that many people don’t see them. Sometimes they are kept at the lower bottom of the shelves.

Pay attention to those things when you are doing shopping to find out what could help you save money on the items that you bought. Also in this case, discount cards and discount lists could help.

4. Make A Garden For Yourself: Yes! It’s good to create a garden for yourself. Maybe at your backyard or somewhere close to you. Farming what you eat is a good, easy, and cheaper way of eating healthy food. You reduce what you buy in the market and you get access to fresh, healthy foods.

I have a garden where I plant regular crops like tomatoes, peppers, okra and other vegetables. I have harvested more than enough crops from my garden and I eat them fresh.

So, it’s so healthy and cheaper to cultivate your own food. You can buy seeds cheap and just give some time and efforts, and you will start reaping your harvests. How lovely is that!

Some people even rear livestock; they do poultry, rear cows, goats, sheep, pigs, and so on. It’s so nice to take up the opportunities the nature has blessed us with. And if you don’t have a garden or farmland, you can join a community farming or hire someone to farm for you.

5. Plan Your Meal Ahead: Don’t wait till you are hungry to eat, plan your eating ahead. By that, you are not tempted to eat junks or go on impulsive shopping.

I usually prepare ahead what I would eat for the week when I cook. So, I keep the food in the freezer and pack them in bits so that it will be easier to defrost.

More so, I cook foods that take long time to prepare, and leave foods that take few minutes to prepare. Ultimately, I enjoy planning my meals ahead for myself and my family.

6. Don’t Shop When You Are Hungry: Like I said, shopping when you are hungry is a temptation to do impulsive and unnecessary buying. Shopping when you are comfortable and not hungry will prevent you from buying junks and processed foods which could have negative effects on your health.

When you buy whole foods, you would have enough time to cook and enjoy your food which is more beneficial to your health than junk foods.

7. Hire Someone to Cook for You: If you don’t have time to cook or go on food shopping, you can hire someone to cook for you and tell them what you want. That is still much better than eating out all the time.

The money you spend on eating out a week could be spent on cooking by yourself a month. You can enjoy a healthy eating while you put yourself under a low budget and enjoy a happy living.

I hope with these 7 points (and maybe more that you could think about), you can find it easier to spend less on eating healthy food.

Thanks for reading and do have a great weekend!
