Q&A: "What Is the Number One Quality I Need to Look Out For In the Person I Want To Marry?"

Welcome back friends. Trust your week has been great and you’ve been doing well and your family.

Today, I want to answer another question that someone asked. “What is the number one quality I need to look out for in the person I want to marry?”

Depending on individual’s beliefs and opinions. For me, I think the number one quality to look out for in any person you want to marry is the fear of the Lord. The fear of the Lord is paramount in anybody who wants to succeed and do great things in life.

The Bible says “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." – which means it is the fear of the Lord that makes anyone wise. And without wisdom we cannot succeed in this world. So, for anyone who wants to get married, such person must be conscious of this great quality in their potential partner.

Now, what exactly is this fear of the Lord and why does it matter? The fear of the Lord is the mindset or consciousness of the Lord to keep doing what is right and avoiding evil. As human beings, we know no one is perfect and we are all God’s work in progress. But a person who has the fear of the Lord will be willing to grow. They will be conscious of their behavior and be godly in their character.

Even if they have things they are working on, you will see godly character in them. They will be loving, open-minded, kind, gentle, patient, accommodating, forgiving and so on. The fruit of the spirit will be their outward expressions. This doesn’t even mean the person will be religious. But they will be godly. They will be willing to learn and grow, and very importantly, they will be the doer of the word.

When someone has the fear of the Lord, they will be willing to obey the Lord. They will be willing to do His command. They will not be rebellious to their spouse or do evil to them. A man or woman who has the fear of the Lord will not be willing to do evil. They will not even want to think about it less alone do it. They will always seek the good of their partner and see how they can grow and do well in life.

It is the fear of the Lord that makes David succeed. God called him a man after His heart because he feared Him. David, once said I have kept your word in my heart so that I will not sin against you. That is the fear of the Lord. Keeping the word of the Lord in your heart keeps you away from evil. It keeps you from disobeying the Lord.

The fear of the Lord is also seen in the life of Joseph. He said why should I do this and sin against the Lord. Joseph was able to run away from evil even when his boss was not there because he feared the Lord.

For any other person, it’s a good opportunity to have fun. But for Joseph, that was sinning against the Lord. Even though his action at the moment landed him in prison, it wasn’t long that the Lord Himself manifested His glory in the life of Joseph by making him the second person in command in the whole of Egypt, more powerful than his former boss whose wife accused him of defiling her.

The fear of the Lord will make you run away from evil. The fear of the Lord will make you do well in life. The fear of the Lord will also make you appreciate your partner and don’t want to do evil to them. You will be willing to grow with them and fulfill your purpose and vision together. That is the fear of the Lord.

So, that is my suggestion about the number one quality I think anyone should look out for in their potential partner before they marry. I believe that’s the foundation upon which every other thing builds.

So, friends, if you have any questions or things you will like to share with me, kindly write me or share them in the comments below. I will love to receive your questions so that we can learn and grow together.
