Raising A Daughter

Today, I want to share something about raising a daughter. I know it’s not a topic that is often discussed, but it is important, especially for we parents and those who love children.

Raising a child is not easy, let alone, a daughter. It requires a lot of patience and understanding. 

I remember the times when I was raising my daughter, I learned a lot through that period. And even up till now, I still learn and understand many things about grooming a young woman.

While your daughter is still a baby, you could decide to give her anything you want, just as needed. You could take care of her, nurture her and give her attention like the boys. 

But the moment she starts growing up and can choose things by herself, it becomes a little bit harder to give her anything. She would want to choose by herself, select what she wants and even wants more than the boys. 

The nature of women didn’t start in adulthood. It actually starts from childhood. We are selective and expressive. We want more and more!

Times when we would go to the market on budget, and I would buy things for the boys. They’re already satisfied. For my girl, she would choose and choose. And we might end up buying more than budgeted. So, I’ve just understood that, and I make sure I put extra amount on her own things.

Going through all of these is not the end. When she grew up into teenager, then she started showing more feminine and independent qualities. This is a special age when a girl enters puberty and a lot of things are changing in her body and mind. 

At this stage, she needs more attention and affection. She might not fully understand what she's going through yet, but she needs help anyway. So, this is a time when as a mother you will need to show her more love and affection.

As for my daughter, she was such a quiet, easygoing type. So, I had no difficulty training her and grooming her up. But I know sometimes it can be overwhelming for mothers to care and help their daughters when they go through the challenges of adolescence and adulthood.

By the way, this week has been an amazing one. My daughter, Abisola celebrated her birthday on Thursday, 13th of October. It was such a great moment. She came home and we had great time together.

To say few things about her – I know her to be someone calm, lovely, hardworking, kind, organized, confident, resolute, straightforward, and reasonable. She would find every reason to support her point and make her intentions known. (lol)

Knowing her and grooming her into who she’s today has been an amazing experience for me. I had over the years learned patience and love. Training her has added so much value to my life and orientation. I pray she keeps excelling in all areas of her life and fulfills purpose.

I also pray for all children that they will do well and live to fulfill their dreams in life. God will keep protecting them and guide them in the way they should go. They will have good things to celebrate and be the pride of their parents. 

Lastly, I implore parents and guardians to support their children and teach them to be independent and valuable, so that they can affect positively their peers and generation.
